PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS - Coggle Diagram
PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS
THERMAL PROPERTIES
Melting point
The temperature at which a material changes
from a solid to a liquid state
Thermal conductivity
The ability to transfer or
conduct heat
If a material is not a good conductor of heat or electricity it is called "
insulator
" (for example the rubber)
ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES
Electrical conductivity
The ability to conduct
electrical charge
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
DENSITY
The mass of material (kg) per unit volume (m3)
KG/m3
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
MALLEABILITY
The ability of a material to be reduced into
layers
DUCTILITY
The ability of a material to change form before breaking
STRENGHT
The maximum load that a material can withstand without breaking
HARDNESS
The ability to resist surface abrasion, scratching or cutting
ELASTIC LIMIT
The stress beyond which there is permanent deformation
STIFFNESS
The resistance of a material to deformation when exsposed to stress
