Who?
police - responsible for investigating, gathering evidence, questioning and enforcing the law.
HM courts - magistrates are for less serious crimes, whilst the crown court deals with serious offenders. suspect enters a plea, in magistrates court. Bail and legal aid are also discussed in magistrates.
prison and probation service - agencies carry out the sentence given. They enforce the law and play a part in rehabilitating offenders. prison is for custodial sentence. probation service supervise offenders who have non custodial sentence.
Police
courts - police give evidence as a prosecution witness, protect vulnerable witnesses and transport offenders
CPS - police charge offenders in line with CPS instructions. The police also gather evidence against the offenders for the CPS
prison / probation - police arrest anyone who has breached their license, and they help to manage child sex offenders in the area.
HM prison service
courts - courts work with prisons to facilitate legal visits with offenders and carry out custodial sentences

probation service - deals with offenders who have been released from prison or will be released on lisence
CPS
courts - prepare and present a case against suspects. They also help to prepare appeals to sentences that are deemed unsatisfactory or too lenient
police - the CPS advise police on lines of enquiries and evidence collection. They also advise police on what to charge suspects with
government departments
courts/ prisons/ probation - ministry of justice responsible for the running of courts, prison service and probation. Tax money is used to fund these
police - work to identify priorities for different forces. Tax money is used by the home office to fund the police.
courts and tribunals

prison service - the prison service transfers offenders to and from prison to court. they also help arrange meeting, video links and interviews
