In order to promote racial healing, Whites must acknowledge White skin privilege.
Most White people don't think of themselves in racial terms.
Being in charge for the majority leads to race "obliviousness." White people see themselves as the norm.
This has negative consequences.
"Blind Spots."
Most use the term "White" to only refer to race.
Race and ethnicity are not the same thing.
Race determines our social status and only exists in relation to others.
Ethnicity is our culture.
Food, language, religion, values, family structure, music.
For most Black people, race and ethnicity are intertwined.
Black culture was lost through slavery.
New African-American culture arose out of collected elements in the U.S.
Not everyone has the freedom to not care about racial issues.
People with privilege can choose whether to care.
Leads to ignorance.
Some can't afford not to care.
Can lead to not accepting the help of people of a different race.
Bitterness against those with privilege.
Acknowledgement of the power of privilege is key to solving it.
People with privilege often don't realize its power.
They must be shown the advantage they have.
Knowing the power of privilege and doing something about it are two different things.
You can't solve without acting.
