THE GEOLOGIST
The geologist applied to engineering
Geological engineers are highly trained professionals who play a fundamental role in civil engineering. Their work is essential to guarantee the safety, stability and durability of buildings, as well as to minimize the environmental impact of projects.
¿What functions does it have?
Compilation and analysis of prior information.
Design and supervision of the geological-geotechnical research campaign
Geological cartography.
Design of the laboratory testing campaign and materials quality control
Design of instrumentation and terrain monitoring systems
Study and recommendation of the use and/or reuse of materials
Definition of the excavability of geological materials
Identification and recommendation of constructive solutions in Engineering
Geological as foundations,
Report and project writing
¿What function does it have in the mining industry?
It is a person whose daily work is the search, investigation and exploitation of mineral deposits whose exploitability is economically profitable. Dr. Ridge said, back in 1983, that the only reasons why mining companies hire geologists are: to find profitable deposits, or to ensure that the entire deposit being mined is also extracted under profitable conditions.
¿por que medios?
Mapping
Testimony of polls
Reserves estimate
geotechnical studies
¿Why do geologists exploit minerals despite the environmental impact it causes?
The life we know today would not be as we know it without the exploitation of minerals. Without minerals we could not have electricity, fuel to transport us, we would not have access to technology, medicine would not have the tools it currently has.
If we weigh the consequences and benefits, the benefits are greater, it is clear that we must look for an alternative to further mitigate the environmental impact, but so far there is none, and our only plan is exploitation.
¿What contributions do geologists have for the development of humanity?
Geologists play a crucial role in the development of humanity by providing knowledge and solutions in key areas such as:
Natural resource management
Mitigation of natural risks
Civil engineering and construction
Space exploration
Understanding Earth History
