Global Art Competition: SDG Goal 14 (Life Below Water)
Coral reef depletion
Causes: coral poaching, climate change, overfishing
Effects: fishes suffer the loss of their habitats, impacts on the biodiversity of species, make coastlines vulnerable to storms and flooding.
Solution: Avoiding the contact with corals especially by boat anchoring, recycle trash instead of polluting it into the ocean.
Plastic pollution
Causes: littering, stormwater runoff, industrial activities.
Effects: It causes choking hazards on marine wildlife, able to poison the air and groundwater that causes health problems.
Solution: Creating banners and posters to advocate people on recycling trash instead.
Coastal eutrophication
Causes: The cause of this is sewage and industrial waste products being dumped in the ocean.
Effects: Polluting clean drinking sources of water that can lead to intestinal issues when drank.
Solution: Regulating nutrient sources can help to minimize the production of eutrophication.
Overfishing
Causes: Rising in consumption of the government leading to the fishermen to fish more.
Effects: Endangers the ocean ecosystem which could create a food crisis.
Solution:
Ocean warming
Causes: The increase of greenhouse gases that escapes heat into the waters.
Effects: It can create melts of ice glaciers and heatwaves.
Solution: Develop more of the ocean's ecosystems by restoring them in order to combat ocean warming.
Ocean acidification
Causes: The contamination of carbon dioxide from human activities such as fossil fuels and deforestation.
Effects: It can eat through the minerals of oysters and clams that builds their skeleton out of them.
Solution: Reducing the use of fossil fuels can lessen the effect of ocean acidification.
