The eye
-
cornea- transparent layer which lets light in eye, help focus

The human nervous system
network of neurones, bundled into nerves
-
-
can react voluntarily, or be a reflex
Info from receptors, in the form of electrical impulses passes along neurones to the central nervous system ; the CNS coordinates the response by transmitting electrical impulses to the effectors
brain
Cerebral cortex
consciousness, intelligence, memory and language
cerebellum
coordinating muscle activity, and balance
medulla
unconscious activity- breathing, controlling heartbeat, gut movements

-
-
Reflex arc
- Receptor detects stimulus and passes electrical impulses along sensory neurones to CNS
- There is a junction between the sensory neurone and the relay neurone called a synapse. Here a chemical reaction is released that diffuses across the gap and causes an electrical impulse to pass along the relay neurone
- there is another synapse between the relay neurone and the motor neurone, again a chemical is released that causes the electrical impulse to pass along the motor neurone
- The impulse arrives at the effector
eye problems
Myopia
light concentrated to short, cannot reach retina.
need concave lens, to fix
-
hyperopia
-
-
light concentrated too far, further than retina
