Cádiz was one of the places not occupied by the French during the invasion
Why?

ideas about

democracy
people wanted a
constitutional monarchy
people wanted Napoleon out of Spain and to regain their
sovereignty

independence
When
?
on
19th March 1812
: St Joseph's Day / El día de San José
they called it
La Pepa
(because of San José)
What happened next?
it lasted for
2 years
it was made illegal by
Fernando VII
(and
absolutism
reestablished
) :forbidden:
supporters : were put in
prison
But... :
In
1820
there was a rebellion and it was reestablished... for
3 years
!!! This was called the
Liberal Triennium

The seed was planted... there was a 2nd constitution in
1931
and a third in
1978
(the one you have now)
