Chapter 11: Introduction to DMAIC and DMADV
DMAIC Process
Identify root causes, use statistical tools (Pareto charts, Six Sigma tools).
Develop solutions, test hypotheses, implement changes.
Collect and validate data, define performance baselines.
Establish standards, transition ownership, ensure sustainability.
Identify the problem, set goals, create project charter.
DMADV Process
Identify best practices, benchmarks
Develop and implement new processes
Collect data for performance requirements.
Validate outcomes
Identify the problem, determine project scope, focus on customer requirements.
Differences
The last two phases differ: Improve & Control (DMAIC) vs. Design & Verify (DMADV).
DMAIC teams refine existing workflows, while DMADV teams develop new structures.
DMAIC is used for improving existing processes; DMADV is for creating new ones.
Roles of change management
Ensures smooth transitions in process improvements or redesigns
Requires documentation, oversight, and stakeholder communication.
Keep teams informed and aligned with leadership
Establish clear goals and measurable outcomes.
Use stakeholder analysis and SIPOC diagrams for structured planning.
Utilize Six Sigma tools to analyze data and implement improvements effectively.
