ATTATCHMENT (CARE GIVER AND INFANT)
Interactional Synchrony
Infant and the care giver copy each others behaviours
helps to interact with eachother
Meltzoff and Moore
got the mothers to display 3 facial expressions and hand gestures to see if the baby would copy the behaviour
findings: all the babies did show interactional synchrony, showed more often the stronger the attachment they had to the mother
replicable
small sample sizes, cant be generalised
experiment taken out on white American children sp might have cultural differences
Reciprocity
Respond to eachother, more like a conversation
facial expressions and gestures
meet each others needs, build a stronger connection
Murray
Had the baby in the room, they were watching the mum on a video call and interacting with them
screen would then freeze
findings: babies would get really stressed, avoid eye contact with the mum - shows reciprocity is very important for the baby
replicable
experiment taken out on white American children sp might have cultural differences
small sample sizes, cant be generalised
BOTH - cant be sure that the babies response is an innate behaviour or whether its a conscious response to the mother (lower the validity of the study, cant be sure were measuring what were setting out to measure)
