        in simple terms, Kant believed that what makes an action morally right is not the consequences it produces, but the intention behind the action, and whether it follows a universal moral law, like "Do not lie" or " Do not steal."
        
        This avoids subjectivity and uncertainty because you only have to follow a set of rules and do your duty. The categorical imperative states that one should act only according to rules that one would accept as universal laws without exceptions or contradictions. In other words, if everyone followed a particular action or rule always, in every circumstance, it should still make sense and be morally acceptable.
