Contradiction Despite its strengths, rigidly following Kantian ethics can produce results that many find unacceptable. Suppose you are a hotel manager protecting people from a genocide. An opposing soldier is looking to kill people and asks you, if there is anyone hiding in your hotel. If you lie, you can save many lives. However, according to Kant, it is unethical to lie, even to save lives. This thought experiment is exactly what happened in 1994, when hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina, saved 1268 people at Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali during the Rwandan genocide.
