Meanings
Pathetic Fallacy
The pathetic fallacy is often used to describe the environment. The weather and seasons can be described to reflect the mood of a character or create a tone. Trash story reface, “The wind was just getting stronger, and my shirt was flapping.” (Pg199)

The weather
Throughout the novel, the weather often mirrors the characters’ emotional states or the tension in the plot. For example, when the characters are faced with danger or uncertainty, the weather may become stormy or oppressive. The sky and the weather are often used to symbolize the pressure and tension the world around them feels just as threatening.
The wind foreshadows the end of the novel when the money is returned to the poor in Behala in a major storm.
