Personal Passion
Cooking
Cooking as a life skill
One skill my teacher suggested was to do cooking as a life skill. This includes practicing cooking everyday meals, which will support me in the future if I am living alone (in uni).
-
Instruments/Music
Piano
I am a piano player of 10 years, currently completing my AMEB Grade 6 certificate. For AIF, I could potentially be learning the pieces for my exam, and my learning output would be my exam score.
Violin
I high school, I learnt a few years of violin. My learning goal could be to relearn violin from scratch (as I no longer remember the knowledge but still have the resources)
-
Guzheng
Learning the guzheng has always been a personal dream of mine, as I can connect to my culture while learning an unique instrument.
ELIMINATED: As I currently do not have a guzheng at home and I don't know anyone who plays this instrument, it would be extremely difficult for me to learn the guzheng. After researching online, to rent a guzheng would require $600-$1000 plus a rental fee of $50-$60/ per month. This cost is too high for this task.
Flute
I had previously learnt the flute in primary school, and I could possibly pick it up again for AIF
Sports
Swimming
I was an avid swimmer during primary school, but quit as I transitioned into high school. My best record was 400m freestyle in 9 minutes. My learning goal could be to improve my swimming speed to reach a competitive field.
ELIMINATED: Similar to ice-skating, the costs for swimming (including coach and tickets to the swimming pool) are too expensive to afford.
Badmington
I am quite interested in learning badminton as a sport, as I currently have not had much experience.
ELIMINATED: I do not know many people who play badminton, or any teachers who could help me in my journey.
Ice-skating
I have previously learnt ice-skating for three years, but quit in year 8. My learning goal could be to relearn ice-skating, including jumps, movements etc.
ELIMINATED: The costs for ice-skating are too high, as I would need to practice at least once a week. The entry concession ticket to the Ice Arena cost $17.50 weekly, and Skate School lessons also cost $400 a term.
Languages
Japanese
One language I was thinking to learn was Japanese, as I had previously learnt the language in year 8.
-
Research
One option I considered was to research a specific topic I am interested in. This could include disabilities, medical topics, new inventions etc.
ELIMINATED: I am not particularly interested in producing a final essay/report, and the research process may not smoothly as much of the information I find is online
Entrepreneurial Focus
Sushi
My parents will be opening a sushi shop soon, so I was considering working at that shop to learn both how to operate a business and improve my cooking skills with sushi.
Desserts/sweets shop
Possibly 'opening' a dessert shop, making desserts such as cakes, pastries, desserts etc. However, I do not have a functional oven at home, which eliminates this option.
Online shop
I could try an open an online shop, selling clothes or other items. However, I am not really familiar with this aspect, and I do not know where I could import the clothes/items from.
Future profession/job
Tutoring
This was my final decision for my AIF. I will be tutoring students from China in their English, which is important to them both for their studies in China (as English is a required language) and also is beneficial if they want to move to Australia to study in the future.
Hair dresser
I could potentially focus on hairdressing and makeup aspects. This includes learning how to cut hair, do lash-lifts, apply makeup etc.
