GENERRATING ENERGY, fossil fuels - Coggle Diagram
GENERRATING ENERGY
Hydro-electric power
water can be used to generate energy in several ways. the movement of waves in the sea, a fast-flowing river, water coming down waterfall and water released from a dam can all generate power. EXAMPLE: Water stored in a dam flows down → Spins turbine → Generator makes electricity → Electricity powers homes!
-
wind power
the blades on a wind turbine are moved by the wind. this creates energy that drives a generator, EXAMPLE: Wind energy = Wind moves turbine blades → Shaft spins → Generator creates electricity → Electricity powers homes!
-
Geothermal energy
a renewable energy source that harnesses heat from the Earth's interior, which can be used directly for heating buildings or converted into electricity through power plants. EXAMPLE: Geothermal energy uses this heat from the Earth to produce electricity or heat your home.
fossil fuels
fossil fuels, like coal and oil, produce carbon emissions. fossil fuels are limited resources: once they are all used up, they cannot be replaced. gradually fossil fuels will be replaced by other sources of energy. EXAMPLE:
Oil (Petroleum):
A liquid fossil fuel composed of hydrocarbons. It's used to produce gasoline, diesel, and other fuels for transportation, as well as various petrochemicals used in plastics and other products.
nuclear fuels
the main nuclear fuels are uranium and plutonium, they are not burned to release energy. EXAMPLE: Inside, tiny atoms of uranium (a type of nuclear fuel) are split apart in a process called fission. When the uranium atoms break apart, they release a huge amount of energy in the form of heat.
This heat is used to boil water, turning it into steam. The steam spins a turbine, which generates electricity.
-
solar power
solar energy is produced either by solar cells of solar panels. solar cells (photovoltaic cells) convert sunlight into electrical energy. solar panels don't generate electricity; they heat water that is pumped through them. countries such as China, India and the USA are installing large scale solar farms so that more and more of their electricity will be produced from solar energy. EXAMPLE: Imagine you have a solar panel on your roof. The solar panel collects sunlight and converts it into electricity. This electricity can be used to power things in your home, like lights, a fan, or even charge your phone.
