Module 12: Video: Kimberlé Crenshaw explains what is intersectionality
Intersectionality is applicable to all humans, as everyone can be viewed from intersecting standpoints. From a non-intersected point of view, I am white and a woman, and someone with ADHD. All in which can be viewed separately in terms of privilege. However, considering intersectionality I am a woman WITH ADHD. Thus, considering the two factors as connected. It is proven that women and ADHD used to be viewed separately, rather than acknowledging the struggles that come from the two intersecting. Women with ADHD are more likely to develop anxiety and depression from years of going undiagnosed. In my experience, exactly this happened. I spent 15 years of my life undiagnosed leading to severe depression, from continuous masking. Those 15 years, my ADHD was denied because I didn't exhibit the traits the majority of men with ADHD have.
