parent-led CBT - Coggle Diagram
parent-led CBT
treatment components
alternative parental responses - look at how parents' behaviour may be reinforcing anxiety, think about how they can respond differently to encourage learning and extinction of anxiety
exposure - inhibitory learning model - learn that you will be okay by exposing child to anxiety provoking situation e.g. sleeping in room alone without mum or dad
identifying triggers and how they can be managed - what does child think is going to happen, what do they need to learn
-
-
-
psychoeducation - what is anxiety, how is it maintained
rationale
-
-
parental behaviours potentially play a role in causing (limited evidence) and/or maintaining anxiety in children
-
-
delivery of treatment
guided CBT self-help - workbook to go through at home, bring back to sessions to discuss with clinician
-
transdiagnostic approach - similar cognitions and behaviours across anxiety disorders and there is a lot of comorbidity
core principles - empowering parents, creating opportunities to test fears - highly informed by cognitive model - want to get children to update their thoughts
efficacy of treatment
similar results whether or not child engages with therapist or if treatment is delivered through parent
brief versions of this treatment can be effective, but not if they are made too brief - increase accessibility
