Track and Field: In sixth grade, I tried out for the track team because my sister was on it and my mom had been a runner. I made the team, which I wasn’t that happy too happy about because I felt like running was not for me. Every year, I told myself I would quit. Somehow, I ended up running until my senior year of high school and even committing to run in college. Being a part of a team was fun in high school because I got to talk to my peers who were not in my friend group. I began to take running seriously and by junior year, I was a part of many school records with my relay teams. We got to go to Boston, UPENN, New York City, and many other exciting places. This taught me to never give up because as long as I put in the effort, I knew I could be good. Also, the biggest thing running track taught me was to not take anything too seriously and to have fun. I often found myself getting upset with my times and comparing myself to others, but at the end of the day, I was doing something I enjoyed and no matter how bad my race was, I would still be okay and I would have another opportunity to try again.
