- - - - 2 Throughlines:
        
        Creation-Enjoying: Students learn how to appreciate creation in a responsible, respectful way. Through the units, they will begin to recognize the beauty and interconnectedness of the world. By connecting their curiosity to real-world experiences, students will learn to value and protect the natural world.
        
        Order-Discovering: Throughout the science units, students will come to uncover the patterns, systems, and order that exist in the natural world. By making these connections, students will recognize the deliberate order of how the natural world was created and organized.
    - - FLEx Activity: Recycling & Waste Campaign:
      - Students will take responsibility for a campaign, promoting ways to reduce waste in the school and greater community. Through their campaign, they will educate others about recycling, composting, and other ways to protect Earth Systems (God’s creation). Through this activity, students will learn how waste can impact Earth's systems and how we can all be good stewards of God’s creation to restore our Earth. Students will have the choice and responsibility to decide how they want to create their campaign, such as a poster or letter. Once they are done, they will find places around the school for their campaign as well as outside of the school community (stores, small businesses, grocery stores)...ensuring permission from the owners. Assist students as needed with finding places for their posters.

        From this FLEx activity that incorporates both science and math, students can engage in a reflection in the
        groups. They can reflect on what they learnt from the activity and how they made connections between
        science and math.

        Construct Meaning: Background Knowledge - Students make connections to background knowledge and, with guidance, identify gaps to explore new information.
        
        Acquire Information: Evaluate - Students evaluate information from several sources by identifying fact and fiction, determining relevant and irrelevant information, and considering the intent of the message or the point of view.
        
        Social Studies:
        
        Awareness: Participation - Students recognize how being literate enables them to participate in local and global communities.
        
        Communicate Meaning: Modes and Media - Students identify how the different qualities of diverse modes and media represent and communicate ideas, experiences, understandings, and concepts. They use diverse modes and media to share and present.
        
        Math:
        
        Awareness: Task Analysis - Students analyze a task and identify the literacy skills needed to complete it.
        
        Acquire Information: Access - Students select, sort, and analyze information from a variety of sources to respond to a problem, question, or topic. With guidance, students identify gaps to determine further information needs.
        
        FLEx Activity:
        Students will write a report or retell a story about a historical community or individual in Canada, focusing on what they did, why they’re known, and how their impact has evolved. Once completed, they will organize the big ideas and main points within their writing into a presentation or poster format which they will then use to express their findings to their peers.
