September 15 1935 September 15: The Nuremberg Laws are passed, codifying racial discrimination into law: Reich Law on Citizenship: Jews, Roma, and Black people are stripped of German citizenship and become "subjects" of the state. They lose the right to vote, hold government positions, and have German passports. Reich Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honour: Marriage or sexual relations between Jews and "Aryan" Germans are prohibited. This was intended to prevent "racial mixing" and maintain the so-called purity of German blood. Roma (Gypsies) are classified as "asocial" and "lazy." The Roma are divided into three groups by the Nazis: Roma, Sinti, and Yenisch. They are labeled as drifters and blamed for crime and social disorder.
