WORK TOWARD FOOD SECURITY
With the use of these indicators set by the FAO to unveil and measure and Food Insecurity around the world, it is possible to track regions, nations and even specific populations that historically and currently suffer from moderate and severe Food insecurity and Hunger and take different actions as mentioned above to improve the nutrition of people and avoid present and future health problems related to lack of the quantity and quality of the foods like could be: obesity, stunted growth in children, stress for uncertainty of food supply in the future and undernourishment.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN has the goal to make sure people around the world does not suffer hunger; but while many may not be chronically hungry (not having food for days), they still may be FOOD INSECURE, which means they experience uncertainty about the presence of food in their future or they just have access to little food and/or low nutritious food.
LEVELS OF FOOD INSECURITY AND INDICATORS
Severe food insecurity
Moderate food insecurity
Food security/Mild food insecurity
HUNGER
Uncomfortable or painful physical sensation given by the lack of enough calories or energy intake of healthy and nutritious food. It’s chronic when the person does not consume a sufficient amount of calories on a regular basis to have a normal and healthy life.
FOOD INSECURITY
Lack of regular access to enough safe and nutritious food for normal growth and for an active and healthy life. It can happen either due to unavailability of food or lack of resources to obtain it. It has different levels of severity.
