"What's old is new, what's new is old". (Melfi, 2011). - characterizes the study of mixed methods in evaluation. in that mixed methods have been used by evaluators for many years.

What is it?
When undertaking mixed-methods research, qualitative and quantitative data are combined to offer insights that would not be possible using only one type of data. (Kajamaa et al, 2020)
Type of mixed methods study design: Sequential Explanatory, Sequential Exploratory, Sequential Transformative, Concurrent Triangulation, Concurrent Embedded, Concurrent Transformative Design
Example: a survey with closed answer questions followed by semi structured interviews to gain a deeper understanding
