Factors affecting food security
Poverty
Human - Some people cannot afford to buy food. Farmers may not be able to afford seeds or tools
War and Conflict
Human - Conflicts disrupt farming. War can force millions to flee from their homes to places with not enough food.
Waste
Human - Lots of food is wasted in storage and in transport, eg In the UK, 4.4 million apples are wasted daily
Climate change
Climate Change is affecting rainfall patterns and temperatures, which threatens food production
Land Ownership
Human - Farmers often do not own the land they farm. Land might be used to grow export crops so less food is grown for local people
Distribution and Infrastructure
Human - Food must be distributed to those who need it. Some countries get more than what they deserve.
Pets disease and Parasites
Environmental - Pests, disease and parasites: Crops can be destroyed by insects, diseases and parasitic plants
Temperature
Environmental - crops wont grow if it is too hot or too cold
Soil
Environmental - Growing food, and the types of crops that can be grown depend on the soil eg lacks nutrients or alkaline
Water supply
A stable supply of water is needed to grow food, drought leads to food shortages
