Reasons for Temperature Fluctuations on Earth, Agriculture, Deforestation,…

- - - - Another factor that heavily contributes to climate change is industrial processes. Everything from mining to machining is harmful. Mining is very harmful as they run heavy machinery that release C02 as well as explosives that can produce carbon monoxide. Another process is drilling for oil. This is especially harmful as nevermind the burning of the oil eventually, the holes in which they are mined are never really sealed up properly and therefore leak the very harmful gas that is methane.
        
        Though waste management may not contribute as much as the other factors, it still plays a role. Not only do landfills produce harmful greenhouse gases, they produce air pollution, and contaminate the ground and water around them. These all contribute to adding more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
        
        Another way the climate is effected by human activity is agriculture. Again, it is greenhouse gasses being released that are the issue. At a farm there is lots of it. All the heavy duty farming equipment, generators and a potent one, nitrogen fertilizer. This fertilizer uses natural gas and is applied to large quantites of farm land. If it was the same strength as carbon dioxide, this wouldn't be an issue. The issue is that it is 300x stronger than C02.
      - All of the previously mentioned categories have something in common. Almost all of them involve burning fossil fuels. In small quantities, gases like carbon dioxide aren't that bad but on the large scales they are currently being emitted in, they are detrimental to the environment.
      - Deforestation is a massive issue as when a tree is living, it absorbs lots of carbon dioxide. Forests are carbon sinks, meaning they hold lots of carbon dioxide. When they are cut down, they rot and decay and in the process release all the stored carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is very bad, as seen in the pie chart, deforestation contributes to 11% of greenhouse gas emmisons.
- - - - Another way the earth naturally experiences climate change is through the Milankovitch Cycles. These different cycles dictate many factors about the earth positioning in relation to the sun. These cycles can effect the tilt, wobble, and orbit of the earth. Each factor plays a different role. The orbit of the earth or eccentricity, effects how close the earth is to the sun at any given time. The tilt of the earth or obliquity, dictates how close certain areas of the earth are to the sun. It makes seasons far more extreme. Summer will be hotter, and winter will be colder. The final cycle, the earth's wobble, or precession moves the earth on a wobble in a circle, like obliquity, making seasons more or less extreme.
      - El Nino & La Nina are the names of complex weather patterns that are used to describe varying ocean temperatures in the equatorial pacific. El Nino happens when the trade winds change directions and they blow towards Asia, flowing east to west. They make the temperature in North America warmer. When it is La Nina, the opposite happens. winds flow from west to east and make our temperatures colder.
        
        Volcanic Eruptions
        
        Volcanic Eruptions happen all the time. the ones that really effect our climate are the big ones. They spew ash into our atmosphere blocking any solar radiation from entering. Depending on the severity, this can last for weeks, months, or even years. Another bad thing about volcano eruptions is that they all release more greenhouse gases and as we know, too much is not a good thing.
