Fear of missing out (FOMO) is a potent, powerful anxiety that we must come to grips with in our lives. We are exposed to it daily, via marketing and social media, and it is also deeply entrenched in the video game zeitgeist. Games, particularly free-to-play and games as a-service (GaaS) titles, are designed to capitalize on FOMO. Daily quests, weekly rewards, battle passes, and seasonal events are all examples of systems put in place to keep you playing at the risk of missing out on a reward.
