c) Travel – travel and being a responsible traveller
Travel encompasses the movement of people from one location to another, often for leisure, exploration, or business.
Cultural Commodification: The desire to cater to tourists can lead to the commercialization and distortion of local cultures and traditions. This can involve staged performances, the sale of mass-produced souvenirs, and the loss of authentic cultural experiences.
Balinese Dance Performances (Indonesia): Traditional Balinese dances, originally performed for religious ceremonies and community events, are now frequently staged for tourists.
Visiting the cultural village was informative, but it felt very different from seeing a performance during an actual cultural event. The village presentation seemed staged, almost like a generic overview of the culture. It lacked the authenticity of the performance I witnessed during the festival, which was a truly immersive and meaningful experience.
Staged Cultural Performances: While Malaysia boasts diverse cultural performances like traditional dances (e.g., Zapin) and theater (e.g., Wayang Kulit), some of these are presented in shortened or modified versions for tourists. While these performances can introduce tourists to Malaysian culture, they may not fully capture the original context and meaning.

Human ingenuity refers to our capacity for innovation, problem-solving, and creativity. It drives us to develop new technologies and find solutions to challenges.

For instance, drones have been used by law enforcement and government agencies to monitor crowds at large events or protests, but also to track individuals without their knowledge. This brings up issues of government surveillance, freedom, and right to privacy.
France: In France, drones have been used by authorities for surveillance purposes, particularly during protests or political demonstrations. While they argue it is for public safety, it often sparks debates about the balance between security and privacy.
In Malaysia, the use of drones is increasingly regulated, especially with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) issuing guidelines for drone operators. Malaysia has also seen growing concerns around privacy, with incidents of drones being used for unauthorized surveillance of private properties or events.

c) Concept of Beauty – beauty across time/culture
Definition: The concept of beauty encompasses the qualities that give pleasure to the senses or mind. It is a subjective notion that varies across time and cultures, influenced by factors like social norms, historical periods, and geographical locations

: The media often portrays narrow and often unattainable beauty standards, leading to mental health problems like anxiety particularly among young people.
In South Korea, The pressure to conform to beauty standards promoted by the K-beauty industry (pale skin, double eyelids, V-shaped jawline)
In Malaysia, we emphasis on Fair Skin: There's a strong preference for fair skin in Malaysia, influenced by media. This is heavily commercialized through skin-lightening products and advertisements that often portray fair skin as essential for success and beauty.
From a young age, I was aware of the emphasis on fair skin. Advertisements for skin-lightening products were everywhere, and there was a subtle but noticeable preference for lighter skin tones within my social circles. thus I feel a bit insecure when comparing myself to other
the main reason is to promotes excessive consumption of their products so that they can benefit from it
