Big Three Profiles + Demands + Issues in TOV
Georges Clemenceau {France}
WW1 - took place in France - most damage was incurred by them = militarily + economically
Clemenceau wanted to cripple Germany in every way possible = in their economy, in their military, with their raw materials, industries {economy} and their land
Clemenceau held most power in the TOV = he was the chairman
he wanted extremely heavy reparations because he wanted to make Germany pay for all the collateral damage that they had caused in France
He also wanted to reduce their military to render them completely defenceless so that they can be vulnerable to attack and be unable to protect themselves = Clemenceau wanted to make Germany feel the way France did during their multiple attacks
he took back Alsace - Lorraine = because it was taken from France during the Franco-German War
he also resented and wanted to punish Germany because he had lost to them twice - which increased his resentment and anger towards them
Clemenceau truly wanted Rhineland to be an independent state because it would then act as a buffer zone b/w France and Germany which would prevent France from facing future German aggression because Rhineland would be completely removed from their military control
independent state wasn't possible hence, Clemenceau got Rhineland demilitarised = because he wanted Rhineland to be a buffer zone between France and Germany so that France is protected from further attacks
he was able to do many things to seek revenge on Germany - however, the french public wanted more reprimanding to be done
however, that wasn't possible, because of which he wasn't elected back for his second term
All of their colonies would be lost, and they were imperialistic = hence they were against every ethnicity ruling itself
David Lloyd George
he wanted to also punish Germany to a certain extent however, he wanted to also maintain trade because he was afraid of the take over of communism - if Germany's economy tapped out and collapsed they would be opening a gateway for communism to start spreading - hence why he wanted to keep trading in lieu of his fear of communism
the british public wanted Germany to be punished - and this began causing resentment towards lloyd - hence why he ainted a different image for the public + he was doing something else privately
Britain also did not want France to become the most ultimate power hence why he wanted to keep trading with Germany
Relatively, there was no real conflict between except when Britain sided with France in the moroccan crisis
naval control - lloyd george wanted to maintain Britain's naval supremacy
agreed with France that self determination was impractical because was engaging in imperialism and all of their colonies would be lost
Woodrow Wilson
wanted to follow the 14 points to maintain complete peace
wanted self determination - which was that all people of each ethnicity could rule themselves - however, this was extremely impractical in Europe
people of all ethncities were spread out and self determination would not be feasible or practical because not all people of a single ethnicity were in a singular place, and they could not just move
and this idea would be extremely damaging to the imperialistic natures of the french and british empires - which has many colonies {if all ethnicities and groups got to rule themselves - all their colonies would not be existent under their control} - hence why they both strongly went against it
The polish corridor was a strip of land that separated Eastern Prussia {german territory} from Germany - which made self determination unfair to Germany after this corridor was instated because their people were split up and they weren't able to rule themselves
