Urban Life Flourishes
Trade and towns
Towns
Narrow streets
Filled with animal waste (no sewers)
Houses lacked fresh air, light, and water along with no bathing
No sanitation department in the city
Lots of poor serfs moved into town to become free
Country
Fields to spread manure
Go to the creek/ less pollution
Less crowded and more places to dispose of waste but less money making oppertunities
Loss of labor because serfs were running away into town for better oppertunites
Nobles were going to have to pay competitive prices to keep serfs
More population and activity in town so there will be more problems and issues
Change (society is changing)
Urban/Rural (Big differences evolving between the two)
Merchants shift the social order
so the noble guys still wanted control over the newly forming towns, but the merchants didn't like that their profits would be cut from that
so they just made a collective "nuh uh" and tried to earn their independence (either by asking or by force)
merchant-class town dwellers called burghers
Beginning
Opportunites of Trade and Commerce
Market access- Towns had marketplace where farmers could sell their produce
The Guild system
