Mind maps
Library: One with a few ideas and then multiple branching off, used to organize information
Tunnel: Like library except branches come down to solve main idea/goal (usually displayed at the top)
Presentation: Used for presentations, used to share ideas and usually contains images
Visualisation diagram
- A picture of the product being planned to make, helps to show others your ideas
- Can be made on software or on paper
Wireframes
- A picture (hand drawn or made on software) which shows a base idea of what the result/layout would look like
- Low-fi wireframe will not contain colours, special information, or images, a high-fi wireframe will contain this
TA2 -HCI
Hardware
-
Display types
LCD: Liquid crystal display screens use a fluorescent lamp (backlight) to illuminate the display from behind. -Cheap -Not as good colour representation
LED: Light emitting diode screens use a LCD panel with a LED backlight instead. -Lower power consumption -Thinner -Truer blacks -Fail under high temps
Plasma: Plasma screens output their own light. -Good black levels -Fast response -Duller colours -Glare
-
Resources
RAM: Random Access Memory, where your computer stores data to be retrieved quickly. -Can affect detail on screen
-
Software
-
OS: Operating system is a software (like windows) that manages computer hardware and software. It controls the general operation of a computer providing an easy way for users to interact. Game consoles and embedded systems have their own OS
-
-
Interaction methods: Touch and gesture, keyboard and mouse, voice.
- HCI is a system that allows communication between a user and digital system
- Found in a range of devices/sectors such as: embedded system, entertainment, banking etc
TA3
Information
- Information is data that has been given context and a meaning
Data
- Structure is the form in how data is displayed
- Data is raw information without any context or meaning
Data types
Alphanumeric: Any combination of letters, symbols, numbers or spaces
Numeric: Decimal, integer, percentage, currency & real: a number with values after the decimal -12.3
-
Boolean: A data type that represents two opposite logical values (true/false) by using two values 0 and 1
Data validation
- Validation is used to ensure information (which has been input by a user) can only be input a certain way, only allowing them to input something reasonable
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Data verification
- Verification is the process of verifying information to double check its correct after it has been input to then be processed as correct and therefore verfied
-
-
- Primary data is data collected by you, that you've produced yourself
- Secondary data is data that you've collected from source, produced from others
Storage methods
Smallest->Biggest: Bit, Nibble, Byte, Kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, Terabyte
Cloud: Uses the internet to allow you to upload/download data. -Google drive (auto-save + team access) (need internet connection + data stored on 3rd party servers susceptible to hacks/data breaches)
Magnetic: A motor is used to spin the platter, while a read/write arm moves above it, using the platters magnetic field to read/edit data. -Hard disk drive (high density storage capacity + long lifespan for archival) (sensitive to disruption from strong magnetic fields + less portable/noisy)
Optical: A disk reflects light which gets read by a laser. High powered lasers burns to reflect data, while a low powered laser records and retrieves data using binary. -DVD (resistant to environmental issues such as humidity/temp making it ideal for long term storage + lightweight/compact) (surface easily scratched leading to permanent data loss + require additional software if not built in)
Solid state: Uses NAND memory cells which trap electrons. Before it gets assigned to a memory cell, it is 'cache'. They have a built in controller which keeps track of where data is located, using binary. -USB stick (faster read/write speeds + small size = ideal for compact/thinner devices) (more expensive + in failure recovering data can be difficult/impossible)
