Academic Stress and burnouts is one of the most common in the world, especially with the age gap 14-18 years old, this age gap is almost at the end of middle school and they have to take their final exams such as IBDP, A-Levels, SATs, and HKDSE's.
Academic Stress is one of the leading causes of student suicide in Hong Kong and in the world.
In September 2024 a investigation in Hong Kong was carried out by the EDB (Education Bureau) that over 280 students were singled out as being at a extremly high risk of suicide and had to be offered psychiatric services in order to lower the risk of suicide.
The main reason behind Academic Burnouts is because of the huge amount of stress and homework built up by schools and parental pressure, there is a huge reason why lots of people don't go to seek help or even talk to their parents or open up to others not even their friends is because they feel ashamed that they are different to others.
Solution
Counseling services at schools or paid psychologists at hospital or private clinics would be a great option, as opening up your feelings (Which may be tough) is the best way to getting well from Academic Burnouts.

Seeing a psychiatrist if you ever feel like you need one or if you experience any generalized symptoms of anxiety or depression which is among the most common mental health illnesses that students are exposed to, as mentioned there is nothing to be ashamed of seeking help from a healthcare professional.
Psychological Treatments
Seeking a Psychiatrist would be a great option if the student feels that they have any depression or generalized anxiety symptoms, if the student has any suicidal intentions they should definetly seek a counselor and see a psychiatrist for a professional diagnosis.
Seeking a Psychologist or Counselor would be great if the problem is just due to temporary drop of grades or any parental pressure or family problems, a psychologist or counselor may be able to assist and improve the student's overall mental health by talking and explaining to them, but seeing both a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist/Counselor at the same time is most recommended for the fastest course of treatment as experienced myself.
Medications such as Anti-Anxiolytics, Anti-Depressants and possibly some sleeping or relaxation medications which can only be provided by a psychiatrist.
