Patient History
Carlos is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Due to his high-risk chemotherapy protocol, he has been admitted to the hospital many times for fever and low blood counts. During his recent hospitalization he was admitted with fever, low blood counts, and mucositis. Three days after admission it was confirmed that he had a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI).
Carlos M. is a 12-year-old boy who was diagnosed with high-risk Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) nine months ago.
Carlos and his mom (Ms. M.) live together in northern Michigan community of Roscommon. Ms. M. works full-time in housekeeping for a local hotel. Carlos has Medicaid which Ms. M. applied for following Carlos’ diagnosis. Ms. M. does not have her own health insurance.
