Anticipation Skill
Anticipation is “the process by which performers utilise advance information in order to co-ordinate consequential behaviour” (Houlston & Lowes, 1993)
“The ability to anticipate what an opponent is going to do next is crucial in sports, particularly where significant time pressures exist” (Williams & Jackson, 2019)
In fast ‘reactive’ sports, anticipation skill is a “hallmark of expertise” (effect size = 0.31, Mann et al., 2007)
