Etiquette: formal dress, legal reps stand when speaking, sit when not speaking, address court indirectly eg. your honour, opponent's representative referred to as 'my learned friend' if barrister or 'my friend' is solicitor, everybody stands when judge enters or leaves room, bow to judge when judge bows, if speaking first in court you should introduce your opponent and state who they represent, advocate should never say i think but they should say 'it is submitted' or 'i submit', legal rep should not approach the bench without judge permission

split trial: where court decides to first hold a trial for who is liable and a second 'disposal hearing' to decide damages. court will usually allow this where evidence on liability is different from evidence on damages and it furthers the overriding objective to do so
