Luck of the Titanic: Essay
"Luck of the Titanic" by Stacey Lee follows Valora, a British-Chinese teenager, as she seeks to reunite with her twin brother and convince a partial owner of the Ringling Brothers circus to bring them on as an act.
At the beginning of the story, Valora has many virtues she shows, which include hope, love, and faith, but she tends not to show self-control.
This could possibly be because of her upbringing, with a father who also lacked self-control. But whatever the reason this lack of self-control affects her call to adventure and her need for a mentor later on in the story.

We see this in the call to adventure/refusal of the call stage because after Vaslora's denied access to the boat because she does not have papers, she does not hesitate in decideing to stowaway on the boat. Instead she just jumps on the boat without a plan. This results in April, her mentor, having to save her.
We get evidence of this when ... says "..." . This is because if April had not been there to save her Valora would have been thrown off the boat for her lack of self control and a plan.
Valora's lack of self control affects her during her call to adventure, refusal of the call and her meeting the mentor.
B.P.#1
After Jamie left Valora was left to take care of her father by herself until he died. But from what Valor and Jamie say about him it seems that he also lacks self-control like Valora and that could be where her lack of self-control stems from.
We get evidence of this when ... says "......". This gives us insight into Valora and Jamie's father, who seemingly had a lot of half-baked plans and lacked self-control when it came to a lot of things.
A lot of things could contribute to Valora's lack of self-control but I think one of the main things could be her upbringing with her father.
In short. This could be a primary cause of Valora's lack of self-control, seeing that an environment can affect the way people's emotions and behavior develop.
In conclusion, this is all why I believe that Valora has a lack of self control. We can get this form her upbringing with her father who also lacked self control. And also from her need for April as a mentor to guide her slowly. These reasons point to the one answer that Valora has a lack of self control.
