THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, Main tasks, How it works - Coggle Diagram
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
-
The innate immune system
It provides a general defence. It works against bacterial infections using scavenger cells or killer cells
-
An illness can occur
If the performance of the immune system is compromised
If the pathogens are especially aggressive
If the body is confronted with a pathogen that has not come into contact before
The immune system to work it must identify the foreign cells. This happens because on the surfaces of the pathogens there are proteins called antigens.
The cells of the body have also surface proteins but the immune system doesn't usually work on them because they are recognized as 'self'
If the body recognizes the cells as 'non-self' (not of its own body) then it occurs an autoimmune reaction.
