end-product inhibition
A metabolic pathway is a chain of enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
End-product/inhibitor is the final product of a pathway.
It binds to the allosteric site of the first enzyme in the pathway and undergoes non-competitive inhibition, changing the shape of the enzyme’s active site.
This prevents the formation of excess end products/stops production when there is enough.
The binding of the end product is reversible
The pathway restarts if end product inhibition is low
E.g. Isoleucine inhibits the activity of the first enzyme in the threonine to isoleucine pathway.
