In the workplace
-People with high emotional intelligence expereince more career success, build stronger personal relationships and enjoy better health(Cooper,1997)
-The Emotional Competence Inventory --> Superior performance scored higher in all four EI clusters (the 4 selfs) Cavallo & Brienza
MSCEIT -->Found that higher scores on the MSCEIT predicted greater merit increases, higher company rank, better peer and supervisor rating of interpersonal facilitations, stress tolerance, and leadership potential (Lopes et al (2004))
BUT Most of the evidence bearing on the role of EI in occupational success is anecdotal or collected by consulting companies and not published in peer review literature (Barrett et al., 2001)
Slaski (2001)--> studied 224 middle and senior managers in UK supermarket chains and findings showed EQ-I score was only modestly related to managerial performance
-->Unsubstantiated claims have been recycled in numerous popular books and articles on EI in the workplace(Gibbs,1995; Group, 2000)
