2. Overtaking, Lanes, Freeways
OVERTAKING/PASSING
Given that in no event shall any passing be done by driving on the shoulder of the roadway or on the verge of a public road.
- The driver/rider of a vehicle intending to overtake another vehicle going in the same direction on a public road should pass to the right thereof at a safe distance and should not move to the left side of the road way until safely clear of the vehicle overtaken.

• Any place where the view ahead is not visible and may cause danger to traffic which may approach from the opposite, unless (i) the driver/rider can do so without encroaching on the right-side of the road. (ii) The road is not for vehicles moving in the same direction.
- When you see other traffic passing in the same direction and intending to pass you:
• Drive as near to the left as possible without endangering yourself, other traffic or property

- You are not allowed to exceed the speed limit when overtaking/passing.
- Passing on the left of such vehicle is only allowed if the person driving the passing vehicle can do it without endangering himself/herself and other traffic, and-
• The vehicle being overtaken is turning to its right or that driver/rider signalled his/her intention of turning to his/ her right
• On a public road in an urban area, and (i) is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction. (ii) The roadway is wide enough for two or more lines of moving vehicles.
• On a public road in an urban area and the roadway is wide enough for two or more lines of moving vehicles moving in each direction.
• The roadway is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction and is divided into traffic lanes by appropriate road traffic signs,

- When passing oncoming traffic, the driver/rider must make sure that his/her vehicle does not encroach the road to his/her right in such a way that is may cause obstruction or danger.
- A driver wishing to pass a stationary bus must do so with caution to ensure the safety of individuals getting on or off the bus.
- If the vehicle driver/rider intend to over another vehicle ahead that is not on the left hand lane, he/she must warn the driver of the other vehicle by giving visible signals e.g. flashing your vehicles headlamps
- On freeway, always keep left and overtake to the right.
INTERSECTIONS
- When entering a junction on a public road, a driver or rider must give way to all vehicles approaching from their right.
LANE CHANGING
If you are driving on a public road that is divided by road markings, you are not allowed to jump from one lane into another unless it can be done without obstructing or endangering other traffic.
