No National army and didn't have a national spirit. Multiple different rulers
The Chinese people didn't have national spirit.
Wanted to establish a new style of government based on three things
People's rights - democracy
People's livelihood - economic security for all Chinese
Nationalism - an end to foreign control
Sun Yixian
Became president of the new republic of China
Lacked authority and military support to secure national unity
Didn't have a national army and relied on regional forces
The most powerful army controlled by General Yuan Shikai would overthrow Sun Yixian since he didn't have any forces to protect himself
Betrayed the Democratic ideals
After his death Civil war would break out
China would be involved in a civil war from 1916-1927 known as the warlord era where nations were ruled by regional leaders
