Shortness of breath
Tinnitus
Edema
Epistaxis along with sudden change in BP
Treatment
Retaking BP to ensure 1st reading was accurante
Conscious patient ------> Seated up right
Unconscious patient --------> Supinely
Contact EMS
Check BP every 5 minutes
Emergency
Greater than 180/110 mmHg
Along with a form of organ damage.
Signs and Symptoms
Sudden increase BP greater than 180/110
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Nocturia
Dysarthria
Weakness
Altered Consciousness
Visual loss
Seizures
Heart failure
Nausea
Vomiting
Eventually coma
Treatment
Retake BP to ensure 1st reading was accurate
Conscious patient ----> Seated up right
Unconscious patient --------> Supinely
Contact EMS
Check BP every 5 minutes
Hypotension
"Low Blood Pressure"
Reduction in systolic and diastolic pressure 15-20mmHg
Side effect of medications
Antihypertensive medications
Treatment
Postion patient in supine
Raise Feet
Assess Airway
Administer Oxygen
Contact EMS
Elevated blood pressure exceeding 140/ 90mmHg
