Very racially mixed between the Portuguese, Indigenous, and African groups living there.
Royal Family of Portugal ruled from Europe, but sent their lackeys to rule for them
Timeline
1807: Napoleon invades Portugal, and King John VI flees with his son Prince Pedro to Brazil.
1820: King John VI goes back to Portugal, but leaves Pedro in Charge of Brazil
1822: Prince Pedro declares Brazil as independent from Portugal, and Portugal doesn’t respond.(Pedro’s dad is still in charge of Brazil)

Toussaint Louverture: Leader of the Haitian Revolution. Educated in France, later became the first leader of Haiti.
France is coming out of their own revolution, giving political representation to the French commoners and robbed the elite of their status and power. These Enlightenment Ideas didn’t stay in France however.
France is now practicing equality at home, but is still enforcing Tyranny in its colonies. The enslaved Africans and the freed men of color want some of this Enlightenment for themselves.
