NATURE VS NURTURE
-
Nurture - We are born a blank slate, all behaviour is learnt behaviour
-
-
-
AO3 - fail to consider - Interactionism - involves the two and they shouldn't be put against each other, should look at interactions not differences
A03 - research to support both (Nurture - Harlow monkey, Bobo Doll experiment)
DETERMINISM VS FREE WILL
Determinism - All behaviour is controlled by internal or external factors and we have little to no control over it
5 types of determism
-
Soft determinism - we have some control over our behaviour but it is ultimately controlled externally or internally
-
If we can determine children will socially learn from the media we can put things in place to prevent bad or aggressive behaviour for example
-
REDUCTIONISM VS HOLISM
Reductionism - complex behaviour can be broken down into smaller, simpler, basic parts
3 levels of reductionism (1 lowest, 3 highest level of explanation)
-
- cognitive and psychological (memory, schemas based off of environments too)
- social cultural (looking at social factors)
simplifying things down means running the risk of not getting an accurate representation of what's causing that behaviour
Implement things to manage and control because we are simplifying behaviour down because we can identify cause and effect
Holism - behaviour needs to be studied asa whole looking at all the components that make up and contribute to the behaviour
Humanistic approach - only holistic approach (5 hierarchy of needs, not simplifying it down, all of these will contribute to your behaviour)
