Why did they start setting up Private Armies? :
The Kamakura Shogunate
My main point: Japan's two most powerful clans fought for power for nearly 30 years, and in 1192, the emperor gave a Minamoto leader named Yoritomo the title of supreme shogunate general of the emperor's army.
The Kamakura Shogunate also brought greater stability to Japan, although it did not end conflicts over the country's limited agricultural land.
Disputes also often arose because lords wanted to increase their land holdings at the expense of traditional farmers and landowners.
samurai warriors
samurai lived lived according to a demanding code of behavoir calld bushido
what is expected from a samuria is to show reckless courage reverence for the god fairness and gennersity toward those weaker then himself
dying to an honorable death was judged more importtant then living long live
Since wars between rival lords were commonplace, each lord surrounded himself with a bodyguard of loyal warriors called samurai.
