The House of Lords is an unelected chamber and serves mainly as a revising body. Review and suggest changes to bills passed by the Commons, often providing expertise and a broader perspective. While the Lords can delay legislation or propose amendments, they cannot veto a bill outright if the Commons disagrees with them. The House of Lords includes life peers, bishops, and hereditary peers, many of whom have expertise in various fields (law, business, science, etc.). They use their knowledge to scrutinize proposed laws more deeply than the Commons might be able to.
