Assuming the NOTE SHEET mentioned down there is in play here as well, once they've thought about colonialism as a subject independent you can have a quick write or discussion on how these themes are prevalent in the movie

Explain what that MEANS as well as tie into conversation
This can be tied in (JUST TO NOTE FOR THE DISCUSSION -- how are the "land, bread, and dignity" needs of the people on Earth being violated by Elysium? YESSSS -- for discussion!!)
Field Trip opportunities?? Where -- the Chutchui and Sitlintac site wherein to show the depth of colonialism and how that act of giving yourself away was embedded? HOW IS ELYSIUM TIED INTO THIS THOUGH???
In this fake situation I would want to provide lunch for the kids that are attending this field trip ... also in this fantasy scenario I would apparently be teaching close enough to San Francisco (I plan to move back to CA to teach I just don't know if that's close to San Fran which is why that is also hypothetical)
BRING IT BACK TO WHAT WE SAW IN THE MOVIE -- the less than human treatment of the people living on Earth are receiving from those in Elysium -- RESPECTFULLY tied for discussion sake to the historical site
Gonna have to word field trip form very precisely as to not tick off any ignorant parents ... unfortunately even in this hypothetical I must think of that...
WATCH ELYSIUM IN CLASS -- take notes, maybe on a printed out sheet with note prompts not a fill in the blank.
Do this on a friday so you can grade over weekend and on Monday, you can hand them back for them to keep throughout the unit.
This lets them think about what colonialism means in the function of an action movie -- you can discuss Elysium
Then pick it apart for the values of classism that appear within the movie and what that makes them think of in the real world
HOMEWORK??
The quick write will be class time probably on the following Monday.
As for homework, have them find some kind of historical resources online to research on the subject of colonialism -- at the mid/end point of this unit there will be a small paper 2-4 max pages on the subject of colonialism on the 2 sources that they've selected (and have been approved)
Help will be provided on this unit throughout and class time can be made available post discussion to work on research and later on composition
