Both sides had dug trails miles long of parallel trenches to protect themselves fro enemy fire
Armies traded huge losses of soldiers for small progress of land
It was horrible in there, they were always in mud, no fresh food, rats were everywhere, and sleep was horrible
no mans land where no one controlled the land but they were fighting over it, machine gun fire allowed nobody to go over the middle and people constantly died over it
new guns, poison gas, horrible tech to fight in the trenches
terrain of death, 500 miles, new tech only killed more people didnt help progress more
both sides, german and french lost 300000 men at the battle of verdun, british tried to help but lost 20000 in the first day
