Title-Shades of unity
Setting
In a colorful neighborhood where kids from different backgrounds live together, there are lots of fun places to play, but sometimes there are misunderstandings because of people's skin colors and cultures.
Charecters
Lila: A 12-year-old girl with Black and Hispanic heritage. She loves her family and is proud of her background, but sometimes feels left out.
Ethan: Lila’s neighbor, a 12-year-old white boy who is friendly but doesn’t know much about other cultures. He has heard some mean things at home.
Mrs. Thompson: An elderly Black woman who tells amazing stories about her life and helps Lila understand her history.
Mr. Patel: A kind man from India who owns the local grocery store. He faces some unfair treatment from people in the neighborhood.
Plot

Getting Started
Lila is paired with Ethan, a white boy, for a project about cultures. Ethan says some hurtful things because he doesn’t know better, but Lila decides to talk to him.
Working Together
As they work on their project, Lila shares stories about her family and the struggles of racism, helping Ethan understand why respect is important.
Big event
At the school’s cultural fair, some kids mock Lila’s project. Ethan stands up for her, telling everyone they should be kind and learn from each other.
Ending
Lila feels happy and accepted when her classmates support her. Mrs. Thompson shares wisdom about unity, and Ethan promises to stand up against racism in the future.
