Linguistics, language is the central means by which people communicate.
Antropology, the way we communicaties is part of our cultural repertorie.
Etnography, communication is a grammatical system.

Chomsky saw "competence"first as the knowledge of abstract linguistics rules.
People not only know how to form grammatically correct sentences, they also know to use them appropriately to the context.

It is a method of analyzing language by taking data from people's ethnographies. The data from these ethnographies would feature race, socioeconomic status, your ancestry and also geographical data. It describes the patterns of spoken communication as part of cultural knowledge and behavior. An alternative term for cultural knowledge is communicative competence this means the speakers of any given language intuitively know its norms and variations
