Polarity in Geopolitcs
Over time, the way the world is powered can change from uni-polar (a singular power) to multi-polar (a complex range of powers).
A Uni-Polar world is where the world is dominated by one superpower- e.g. the British Empire of the USA (in the 1990s).
A bi-polar world is where there are 2 superpowers but with differing ideologies. Typically, this results in tensions.
-
Multi-polar worlds develop a much more complex system of global geopolitics whereby many powers compete in differing regions of the world.
Each continent or region may have its own power, vying for Superpower status.
