inadequate treatment of a vaginal infection
exposure to multiple sexual partners
COMPLICATIONS
ectopic pregnancy
pelvic abscess
infertility
recurrent or chronic episodes of the disease
chronic abdominal pain
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
pelvic pain
fever
purulent vaginal discharge
nausea
anorexia
irregular vaginal bleeding
NURSING CARE
maintain hydration
administer analgesics
administer antibiotics
semi-fowlers position for pelvic drainage
monitor vitals
PREVENTION
limiting number of sexual partners
barrier methods ( latex condoms usage)
encourage regular STI screening
emphasize importance of having each sexual partner recoeve antibiotic treatment
avoiding vaginal douching
