UNIT 5 - PNEUMONIA
-
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
-
Pneumonia occurs when germs enter the lungs through inhalaltion, aspiration or blood and attack the alveoli
The alveoli become inflamed and fill with fluid, immune cells and bacteria
This fluid prevents the alveoli from properly inflating and deflating, dirupting gas exchange
Oxygen cannot move efficiently onto the blood, leading to hypoxia.
CO2 builds up in the body, causing respiratory acidosis

NURSING DIAGNOSES
-
-
ALTERED NUTRITION, LESS THAN BODY REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO INADEQUATE INTAKE OF ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS

ASPIRATION PNEUMONIA
pulmonary consequences resulting from entry of endogenous or exogenous substances into lower airway or substances like gastric content
this type of igestion may impair lung defense, causing inflammatory changes and lead to bacterial growth and result in pneumonia
-
DEFINITION
inflammation of the lung parenchyma caused by various microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, parasite and virus
