How Historical Events are Presented in Games
Examples:
Accuracy
Warthunder
the vehicles in the game are incredibly accurate to the real life counterpart. however some are limited by the recency of the vehicles at which point they patch the vehicle to work properly
most of the vehicles have had to be balanced and changed in some way to make the game fun to play as a multiplayer game.
Hearts of Iron 4
the characters and playable countries are based off of real historical figures and kingdoms and are accurate in the details of how they work and act
The characteristics have to be exaggerated for that system in the game to work and the countries need to be able to expand past what they were really like.
World of Tanks
the vehicles in the game are made with the utmost accuracy and are frequently based of off legitimate documentation
some of the vehicles and other such things have to be tweaked to make the game fun to play as some of them may be unfair due to their nature
Battlefield 5
the planes, tanks, cars, bikes, guns, environment, other props and items are all very historically accurate and reflect how the real items and environments would have been
the game is very exaggerated at points as the game still needed to be fun to play as a multiplayer and one of the characters you can play as has a seemingly robotic arm.
Battlefield 1
all of the pieces of the game down to the maps you play on are based on real life examples of them or are direct translations of it into the game
The scenes are often dramatised to keep the scenes looking impressive and cinematic for the player.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
the game uses accurate depictions of human evolutionary ancestors to create an interesting experience.
is slightly dramatized to show the player all stages of evolution and skips many stages to keep the game intriguing.
The Oregon Trail
the entire game is a detailed recreation of the real life treacherous Oregon Trail it details all the ways the characters can die all the things they need to monitor and maintain and player must see if they and their family can make it all the way to Oregon
The distances between locations may not be accurate and the 2D visuals of the game limit the accuracy.
Gameplay
Hearts of Iron 4
all of the characters and places are real and are used in gameplay in a unique way by giving each character perks and traits loosely based off the real traits of that person
Civilization 6
the characters and city names are based on real locations and leaders there is also a DLC that contains some historical and mythological characters
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
within the game the player hunts Period accurate animals and looks after their children and other family members how these species would have
Battlefield 1
the gameplay is in keeping with historical events, places, weapons, characters and dreadnoughts within the game which can be seen in multiplayer or campaign
COD: World at War
The game's main multiplayer mode has many inaccuracies but also does well in keeping the weapons accurate, the Zombies mode is not meant for accuracy at all however the campaign does very well at making it accurate.
